Adaper Kits

Over
the years many types of transmissions have been utilized in
medium to high horsepower bracket and class-style race cars.
Although there are numerous transmissions available for racers
to choose from, the GM two and three speed automatics seem to
be some of the most popular transmissions in the performance
transmission market. Many racers would argue that a Chevrolet
Powerglide transmission, when matched with the proper rear gear,
is the quickest and most consistent of all existing transmission
designs.
This is great if you own a vehicle with a GM engine. The
ATI adapter kit allows Ford and Chrysler owner to benefit
from the GM transmissions as well. Before the ATI adapter
kit, many hours of expensive fabrication were necessary to
mate GM transmissions with non-GM engines. With the introduction
of the ATI adapter kit you now can perform the operation in
less time with less fabrication required. The ATI adapter
kit includes an ATI adapter plate, an ATI crank adapter, an
ATI Flexplate, and all the necessary mounting hardware to
correspond with your Ford or Chrysler engine. The following
paragraphs present a more in-depth description of each adapter
kit component.
The ATI adapter plate is made from 0.5" thick 6061 T-6
heat-treated aluminum. The plate measures 20 inches high and
24 inches wide and may be incorporated into an engine mid-plate.
The plate is not profiled in order to meet the unique clearance
requirements of each vehicle.
The ATI crank adapter is fabricated from heat-treated steel
and bolts to the crank to ensure exact converter and flexplate
location. This adapter also accepts the OEM diameter and length
GM converter pilot. Each crank adapter is designed utilizing
OEM drawings and dimensions and produced on ATI's state-of-the-art
CNC turning centers.
The ATI Flexplate is created from custom drawn SFI-spec chromoloy
steel. This unit is double MIG/TIG welded for additional strength
and lasting precision pass after pass. Each ATI flexplate
is manufactured and toleranced from actual OEM drawings to
ensure a precise fit and location. Each plate is quality inspected
to EXCEED the flatness and run-out tolerances of the OEM units
and is precision balanced on Hines digital equipment with
a resolution of 1/10 ounce/inch.

Crank Adapters

ATI has new crank adapters
made specifically for extra think midplates. These
reinforcing crankshaft adapters bolt on behind
the flexplate to extend the pilot 1/2-inch toward
the transmission, eliminating extra long pilots
on the converter.
