When you buy a 1968 Camaro brand new, the first thing you do with it is go to the drag strip. That makes you the average car-guy of the 1960’s muscle car era. When that car begins living at the dragstrip year in and year out, a legend is truly born. That is the story behind Ian Hill’s 1968 Camaro “Grey Area”. Having held numerous stock eliminator records, Ian acquired the car in 2010 in race-ready condition…for 1993. The car was gone through front to back with all the most modern stock eliminator legal equipment he could buy. He immediately put the car out front, synching wins in the CanAm Stock Super Stock series.
Hill is no stranger to drag racing though as he has campaigned many cars over the years, several with the ATI colors. However, when he put some 315 drag radials on his top sportsman car, the hook was set for go-fast small tire racing. So what does he do? Completely updates his just updated 1968 stock eliminator Camaro to x275 specs, complete with ATI damper, converter, and Powerglide. The small block is force fed by an F1-X procharger and has plans to take on the local Ontario grudge scene by force! How fast do you ask? Fast enough to win their first outing. How much boost you say? Enough to scatter the angry little mouse motor on the second outing. But that isn’t stopping Ian, as he thrashes to get the car ready for The Quebec Grudge Wars on the first weekend in September. We are confident Ian will make it, and that this little ex-stock eliminator car will be one of the baddest small tire grudge cars in Canada!
